A Grade 10 pupil at St. Monica’s Secondary School in Chipata has been crowned the national champion in the letter-writing competition organised by the Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZAMPOST).

Temwani Mbambara emerged first in a competition of more than 300 participants from all 10 provinces of Zambia, beating all other contestants.

Temwani won a brand-new tablet, a medal, books and a school bag all valued at K10,000.

Chipata Province came first, Lusaka Province came second, while Copperbelt Province came third.

The topic focused on exploring digital ideas and creativity among pupils on how they could transform ZAMPOST’s operations in today’s competitive digital world. The theme asked: “If you were a Postmaster General for a day, what would you do to change the course of the Zambia Postal Services Corporation?”

Speaking during the prize-giving ceremony at St. Monica’s Secondary School, Chipata City Mayor George Mwanza thanked the girl for putting Chipata City and the Eastern Province on record.

“Congratulations girl, we are proud of you, the sky is not the limit. Keep it up, better things are yet to come,” Mr. Mwanza said.

He also encouraged learners to participate in such activities, stating that they offered career opportunities.

Meanwhile, Temwani appreciated the school administration for believing in her talent and giving her a chance to express herself through her love for writing.

“I really thank you for being there for me, the teachers and everyone else. I really thank you for all you have done, from the time the letter came for entry to the point where the letters went,’’ Temwani said.

“I would like to dedicate everything, this day, the gifts and everything to my parents, because they have been there for me in everything that I have done. So, wherever they are right now they are happy and proud of my achievement.’’

Temwani further encouraged other pupils, saying they could also achieve success through dedication and hard work.

“It is not just me, it’s everyone, you can also do it. It just takes effort, determination and prayer and believing in yourself, then nothing is impossible,” she said.

“You will be the David fighting the Goliath in your life.”

And Chipata District Education Board Secretary (DEBS) Philipp Zulu thanked the girl for making Chipata District and Eastern Province the overall winner of the competition and encouraged learners to continue working hard.
